The Bahamas is a low-lying archipelago made up of more than 700 islands and cays. Being a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) located at the north-eastern corner of the Caribbean, an area particularly vulnerable to hurricanes and sea-level increase. The Bahamas is therefore one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to the impacts of climate change, such as increased temperatures, sea-level rise, increased storm surges (which has implications on freshwater resources and biological diversity), ocean acidification and increased frequency and intensity of hurricanes.
